I had a great time Wednesday night at the launch party for the Social Media Club of Buffalo at Scarlet Restaurant on Virginia Street in Buffalo.
I am not always the best networker as I sometimes find it difficult to approach a group of people already deep into conversation and introduce myself. I sort of wish that that club would do a mini “speed dating” session to introduce new people to each other. Regular meetings with a guest speaker would also be great and the speaker could talk about how they use social media in their workplace and what works and what doesn’t work.
The Social Media Club brings together anyone with an interest in social media or is in a position that uses social media, such as marketing, public relations/communications, and sales. However, you do not need to be in any of the above positions currently, if you are interested in learning more about social media or just in swapping strategies, this club might be a good fit for you.
The club is also more than, “just a website” and the launch party will be hopefully one of many events to happen in the future. Although there is no cost to join the club online, there is a paid membership level which provides access to a directory of speakers, other paid members and job postings on the Social Media Club website. The next event for the Social Media Club of Buffalo is a screening of the movie “The Social Network,” about the founding of Facebook at 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 28 at the Walden Galleria Regal in Cheektowaga.
