March will be a busy month for social media marketers as two conferences held early this month will address everything from legal pitfalls to creating inspiring, energizing and illuminating posts on social media.
The future of social media, its pitfalls, history and legal matters will be discussed at the Social Media | 2012 Conference, from 3 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 6 at Hilbert College in Hamburg, N.Y. The regional conference will address business, marketing and legal issues in social media.
Local writer and author Kevin Purdy will speak about “The Future of Social Media” by looking at current success stories such as Facebook and Instagram.
Also speaking are Travers Collins Account Manager Carolyn Human and Trevor Torecello, Esq., a lawyer with the firm of Gross, Shuman, Brizdle & Gilfillan, P.C. who will join forces to talk about how companies and organizations can make sure their social marketing strategies will not cause legal problems. Some of the topics reviewed will include:
- Should supervisors be “friending” subordinates?
- How to develop a legal social media policy
- How to create legal giveaways on Facebook
- How to respond to negative posts
Social Media Uninhibited, the brain child of marketer and owner of The Wilson Edge, Robin Wilson, is a conference for those looking to “lose their fears and inhibitions” of not only using social media, but also dealing with customers and clients, getting over a fear of public speaking and finding their sales and leadership voice.
Speakers will address using Twitter, strategies for preparing and delivering presentations that will persuade your audience and how to use social media to create posts that energize, entertain and illuminate. The conference will be held from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday March 8 at the Holiday Inn, 1881 Niagara Falls Blvd in Amherst, N.Y.
