Western New York area businesses that are looking to showcase their social media skills and gain national exposure are urged to enter Buffalo Business First’s Social Madness competition.
The newspaper is “Looking for Western New York-based companies to self-nominate for the competition, which will measure your ability to build and engage a social media audience,” wrote Buffalo Business First Managing Editor, Tim O’Shei in an April 6 article.
The nomination period runs from March 23 to May 5 and the local market competition kicks off June 1. The winner of the local competition then goes on to compete nationwide against other similar-sized businesses in a bracket-style tournament.
“Participants will be ranked based on a scoring algorithm that measures social influence,” wrote O’Shei in a March 23 article. “The algorithm will track votes on LinkedIn connections, Facebook activity and Twitter followers during the challenge period. Companies will compete in Western New York and 42 other U.S. markets, with local winners squaring off in a national challenge.”
National winners will be announced Sept. 11 and American City Business Journals, parent company of Buffalo Business First, will donate $7,500 to the winning business’ charity of choice.
O’Shei will be conducting interviews with WNY businesses on how they utilize social media to grow and brand their business. So far, O’Shei has interviewed professionals from Niagara National Inc., Genesee Community College and Cannon Design. The interviews can be read online by visiting the Buffalo Business First Social Madness Blog.
